Description
A softly photographed - accent lit antique victorian foil and angel hair tree topper that is well over 60 years old. Show with turquoise border and lyrics from "Angels We Have Heard On High."
"Angels We Have Heard on High" is based on traditional French Carol Les Anges dans nos campagnes ("Angels in our countryside"), composed by an unknown author in Languedoc, France. The French Carol commemorates the birth of Jesus from the Gospel of Luke, in which shepherds encounter a multitude of angels singing and praising the newborn child.
In 1862 James Chadwich translated it into English with some adjustments. The carol was also translated into Scottish Gaelic by Iain MacMilan from Chadwich's version, known as Ainglean chuala sinn gu h-ard ("Angels We Have Heard on High").
English Version
Angels we have heard on high,
Sweetly singing o'er the plain
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strain
Chorus
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Shepherds, why this jubilee,
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly songs?
Chorus
Come to Bethlehem and see
Christ Whose birth the angels sing;
Come adore on bended knee
Christ, the Lord, the newborn King.
Chorus
See Him in a manger laid,
Jesus, Lord of heaven and earth;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
With us sing our Savior's birth. (alternately "While our hearts in love we raise")
Chorus
